Mark's primary duty at KLBJ is to keep Sgt. Sam and Ed from strangling each other during Austin's Morning News on KLBJ. Listen to the show any weekday between 5:30 and 10 and you'll know why that is no easy task. Mark, Ed and Sgt. Sam take on the biggest and most controversial stories facing Austin. Sometimes we have to spray the guys with the fire extinguisher from the staff lounge, but that's ok.
After his morning verbal wrestling match with Ed and Sgt. Sam, Mark moves into his other role as Program Director of NewsRadio 590 KLBJ. Got a question about KLBJ? Got a suggestion or complaint? Mark's the guy. mark@590klbj.com or 832-4051.
When Mark is not doing the morning show or listening to the station, he loves to spend time with his family. Mark and Carol have a daughter, Catherine, and son, Mark Jr.
Sgt. Sam is eagerly awaiting the days when Mark has both teenagers driving. Sam is fully convinced he will get great joy in watching Mark deal with those challenges.
Mark has also been a member of the Rotary Club of Austin since 1994 and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the club's charitable foundation.
The Rotary Club is Austin's oldest community service organization.

If you call Sam Cox a "Bubba", you won't get an argument. He is an Austin native and a graduate of Travis High School. He started working for the city in the Electric Department, and then joined the Austin Police Department in 1965. After 7 years as a patrol officer, he was promoted to Sergeant before retiring in 1995 after 31 years on the force. He was President of the Austin Police Association from 1990 to 1993, and calls leading "900 cops all with guns and strong opinions" one of his biggest challenges. Once he left APD, Sam joined the Texas Department of Transportation as Courtesy Patrol Supervisor, assisting stranded motorists. Sam now devotes all his attention to the KLBJ AM morning show.
