Austin Facility Begins Sending Out Economic Stimulus Checks
For those taxpayers getting a check from the Treasury Department as part of the federal government’s economic stimulus package, the check is in the mail. Taxpayers on direct deposit have already been receiving their payment of up to $600, but for those getting their money the old-fashioned way, the checks should start arriving soon. Many of those checks are being printed at a government facility in south Austin, one of only four such printing facilities in the nation.

State Lawmakers Are Looking To Speed Up The Processing of Handgun Permits
State Rep. Joe Driver, Chairman of the House Law Enforcement Committee says he has sent in the renewal for his concealed handgun license ahead it's expiration and is urging others to do the same. He is prompting the DPS to send out six month in advance notices to concealed handgun owners to apply now, rather than later.

Bishop's records offer rare look inside polygamist families
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A bishop's records taken from a polygamist sect in West Texas are helping untangle the spider-web network of family relationships. More than 460 children were removed last month from the Yearning For Zion ranch near Eldorado amid questions whether the youngsters were abused. The children are now in foster care.

Fort Hood Soldier Remians in Mexican Jail
EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A U.S. soldier remains in jail in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, after he says he mistakenly drove across the Mexican border with firearms in his car. Specialist Richard Torres was carrying a small arsenal in his car: An AR-15 assault rifle, a .45-caliber handgun, 171 rounds of ammunition, several cartridges and three knives.

Lance Takes Cancer Fight to DC
